The Student Economics Association invited Professor Spearot from UC Santa Cruz to speak about their Master's Program for Applied Economics and Finance! This is a 10-month program that emphasizes empirical analysis, programming, and professional development.

Professor Van Gaasbeck

Economics Department Vice Chair

The Student Economics Association invited the Economics Department Vice Chair, Professor Van Gaasbeck, to speak to our members about academic advising, and requirements that are to be met so that Economics majors can graduate! She gave us insight on both major and general education requirements, as well as the process on applying for graduation. In addition, she informed us about receiving internship credit from ECON195.

Shannan West

California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development

The Student Economics Association invited Shannan West, who is a Senior Permit Specialist for the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). She discussed the ins and outs of the department including international trade development, permit streamlining, and internship programs. More information about GO-Biz may be found here.

Jake Tuttle

CalPERS Investment Officer

The Student Economics Association invited Jake Tuttle, ​CalPERS Investment Officer, to speak about his experience as a former economics student at Sacramento State, his journey through the Master's Program, and his time as an intern and landing a full-time position with CalPERS Investment Office, Global Fixed Income group.

Professor Lang

Economics Department Chair

The Student Economics Association invited Professor Lang to speak with members about developing economic research. Professor Lang introduced his research on the determinants of female economics majors in colleges across the United States. He posed questions and ideas to our members and allowed for interesting discussions about furthering the research via refining the question, adding independent variables, and means of collecting the data.

Jeff Dunn

Campus Relations Manager for Intel

The Student Economics Association invited Jeff Dunn, Intel Corporation's Campus Relations Manager and Senior Recruiter, to discuss how to professionally network via LinkedIn. He gave students tips and tricks on how to search for job opportunities, expand your professional network, as well as developing your own personal brand. Additionally, Jeff mentioned about upcoming analyst internships that would be perfect for economics majors!

Professor Kelly

Energy Economist

The Student Economics Association invited Professor Kelly from Sacramento State's Economics Department to come present to members. Professor Kelly is SEA's first faculty guest lecture on their area of expertise. Professor Kelly discussed what it is like to work with non-economists in the workforce. This included stories of his time as the Chief Economist for the California Energy Commission as well as other state agencies.

Emily Campouris

CalSTRS Outreach Analyst

Emil​y Campouris discussed with SEA members about the Investments Internship CalSTRS holds each summer. This internship allows interns to spend time with each CalSTRS asset class, work on financial projects, as well as shadow the Chief Investment Officer, Chris Ailman! CalSTRS is looking to expand their internships to the financial sectors as well as information technology.

The Student Economics Association invited Professor Kaplan to speak about Sacramento State's Economics Master's Program! Professor Kaplan mentioned that the Program is dedicated towards working professionals who can gain relevant experience and skill sets in order to become competitive in the work force.

Clyde Montevirgen

Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

The Student Economics Association invited the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis of Marrone Bio Innovations, Clyde Montevirgen. He discussed his journey as a CSU undergrad, his career as an Analyst, his time on Wall Street, interviewing on CNBC, as well as making the switch to corporate finance. Additionally, members learned how to differentiate themselves when competing in finance!

Emanuel Melgarejo

Career Counselor

The Student Economics Association invited Emanuel Melgarejo, who is a Career Counselor and Experiential Learning Coordinator. He works with Sacramento State's Career Center, and advised members on how to create and write the perfect resume and cover letter in order to land interviews!

CalSTRS Chief Investment Officer

The Student Economics Association had the opportunity to have the CIO of CalSTRS, Chris Ailman, discuss the benefits of majoring in Economics. Chris Ailman was on of the top power 100 CIOs in 2013. He and his team also offered our members an amazing opportunity to work for CalSTRS for their Investment Internship.

Peter Lindert

Economic Historian

The Student Economics Association invited UC Davis Economics Professor, Peter Lindert, to Sacramento State. He discussed his new book, "Unequal Gains: American Growth and Inequality since 1700."
